Xorus Patchinko 125 | The Ultimate Bass Surface Lure

If there is one lure that has earned a permanent spot in the lure boxes of our customers here at Gerrys Fishing, its the Xorus Patchinko 125. Known across the UK and Europe as a relentless bass catcher, the 125mm version is the Goldilocks of the rangeperfectly balanced to cast like a bullet and worked easily by almost any modern fast-action lure rod.

While many surface lures struggle in a breeze, the Patchinko 125 is tail-weighted, cutting through the air to reach those distant bait balls or over-the-horizon reef structures where the bigger bass are often lurking.

Why the Patchinko 125 is Essential for Your Lure Box

1. Superior Casting Distance

The aerodynamic, tail-weighted design makes this one of the longest-casting surface lures in its weight class. Whether you are fishing into a headwind or trying to reach a specific outcrop without spooking the fish, the Patchinko 125 gets you there with pinpoint accuracy.

2. Versatile Action: From Subtle to Aggressive

The beauty of this lure lies in its adaptability:

• The Slow Slither: A steady retrieve creates a subtle, snake-like wake that is irresistible in calm, clear water.

• The Walk the Dog: With a light flick of the rod tip, it dances side-to-side, creating a pop and splash that mimics a panicked baitfish.

• The Pause: Dont forget to stop! Many of our most explosive takes happen when the lure is sitting stationary after a fast burst.

3. High-End Hardware

Xorus hasnt cut corners on the fittings. This lure comes pre-rigged with world-class Decoy trebles. These hooks are incredibly sharp and have the strength to hold onto a double-figure bass without straightening.

Where to Use the Patchinko 125

• Shallow Reefs & Gullies: Because it stays on the surface, you can fish it over incredibly shallow, snaggy ground where a diving lure would snag instantly.

• Estuary Mouths: Perfect for working across fast-moving tide rips where bass wait for baitfish to be washed out.

• Rougher Water: Unlike smaller surface lures that get lost in the chop, the 125 has enough presence and splash to be seen and heard in broken water.

• Calm Summer Mornings: Use a subtle retrieve at dawn to capitalize on the quietest conditions.

Gerrys Pro Tip:

If you see bass following the lure but not committing to the strike, try a dead stick retrieve. Work the lure aggressively for three meters, then let it sit perfectly still for 35 seconds. The bass will often watch it move and then smash it the moment it stops moving. It takes nerves of steel, but it works!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 125 better than the original 140mm Patchinko?

The 140 is a big fish lure for big conditions, but the 125 is much more versatile for general UK fishing. It matches the size of common baitfish like sandeels and sprats more closely and is easier to work with standard 7-28g or 10-30g lure rods.

Do I need to change the hooks for UK Bass?

No. Unlike many lures that come with stock hooks that need replacing, the Patchinko 125 is fitted with high-quality Decoy trebles that are more than capable of handling large saltwater predators straight out of the box.

How do I stop the lure from tangling on the cast?

Because it is tail-weighted, it rarely tumbles. However, to ensure a perfect landing, feather the line with your finger just before the lure hits the water. This straightens the leader and ensures the hooks are trailing behind the lure rather than wrapping around the line.
